The objective of the Continuous Wave (CW) Laser Radiometry project is to develop measurement methods and standards for characterizing laser sources and detectors used primarily with CW radiation. The project will develop and maintain measurement services for laser power & energy, optical fiber power, and related parameters (e.g. spectral responisvity, linearity, etc.). Areas addressed include calibration services, calibration services improvements, transfer standard detector development, tunable lasers for laser and optical fiber power measurements, and high power laser metrology. In 1999, the project staff performed 87 calibrations, in the spectral range from 488 nanometers (nm) to 1700 nm, ranging in power from 1 microWatt to 900 Watts. Intercomparisons for optical fiber power and high power laser measurements were conducted with the German Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and United Kingdom National Physical Laboratory (NPL). A preliminary intercomparison of laser power at 633 nm was conducted with the Optical Technology Division. The table below reports on international intercomparison results.
