Abstract
This report describes the World Trade organization (WTO) Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) activities conducted by the national Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), for calendar year 1996. NIST received and processed 460 notifications of proposed technical requlations; reported 38 proposed U.S. technical regulations to the WTO Secretariat; responded to 306 inquiries for notification information; participated in various bilateral and multilateral standards-related trade discussions; and responded to inquiries on the existence, source and availability of standards and standards-related information.
