Medical Surveillance Program

The purpose of this notice is to establish the requirements and associated roles and responsibilities to ensure NIST federal employees have the appropriate medical surveillance based upon their exposure to potential health hazards.

The provisions of this suborder apply to NIST federal employees who during the conduct of their work at any NIST workplace will be exposed to the potential health hazards identified in this document, specifically called out by OSHA, confirmed by OSHE’s health hazard evaluation process, or may otherwise be at high risk for certain adverse health outcomes due to workplace exposures.

The provisions of this suborder apply to covered NIST Associates who may be exposed to the same health hazards as employees in NIST workplaces. However, the responsibility for obtaining medical services/tests and appropriate individual-specific personal protective equipment resides with the associate’s primary institution.
