Andrew J. Gayle received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 2023, working under Prof. Neil P. Dasgupta. He is currently an NRC postdoctoral research fellow. His primary research focus is the development of custom microscopes for probing the structural, chemical, and mechanical properties of materials, for applications including solar fuels and microelectronics. These microscopes incorporate various spectroscopic techniques, including conventional Raman spectroscopy, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), low-frequency Raman spectroscopy, and Brillouin spectroscopy.
