Christian Pederson is a post-doctoral researcher from the Joint Quantum Institute working in the Atom Scale Device Group in the Nanoscale Device Characterization Division. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Washington in 2024 where he studied how color centers in diamond could be used for quantum applications like quantum networking. His graduate research explored what is responsible for the degradation of the charge and optical stability of color centers during the fabrication of photonic structures and what tools and techniques could be used to better control color center charge state and optical stability. Christian currently works with Joshua Pomeroy to develop color centers in silicon as the missing interconnect between the technologies of quantum electronics and quantum photonics in silicon. Specifically, his work is developing an electrically driven, single photon source that promises scalability by leveraging the existing silicon manufacturing processes.
