Jose Munoz serves as an Administrative Specialist for the CHIPS R&D Office. Before that, he was an Air Traffic Assistant at Miami ARTCC, where he worked for five years performing several air traffic administrative tasks.
He also served overseas as an Air Traffic Assistant at Kastner Heliport in Camp Zama, Japan, where he received an Achievement Medal for civilian service for exceptional meritorious service for authoring the airfield’s Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (WASH) program.
Munoz served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years, where he was an Air Traffic Controller during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received several commendations for his honorable duty to our nation.
Originally from Paterson, NJ, he grew up overseas in Guatemala, which makes him fluent in Spanish. He can also speak some Japanese because he was forward deployed in Japan. He is happily married to Maria F. Munoz, who works at NIST as part of the Hight Walker Lab team from the Quantum Measurement Division. He has four boys and enjoys gardening in his free time.
