Martin Hindel (Fed)

Martin Hindel is a Patenting and Licensing Manager in the Technology Partnerships Office (TPO) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He works with NIST’s Physical Measurements Laboratory (PML) and external organizations to manage the drafting and negotiation of cooperative research and development agreements and other technology transfer agreements.  Additionally, Martin manages PML’s patent portfolio, oversees the patenting of NIST inventions arising from PML research activities, and negotiates licenses for NIST inventions arising from PML between NIST and its partners in industry and academia. 

Before joining TPO, Martin served for five years as attorney-advisor with the Department of Research Programs at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He advised hospital leaders on technology transfer, patenting, and licensing matters.  Before that, Martin served a 25-year career in the U.S. Air Force as a military JAG officer (attorney), serving in various legal assignments and retiring with the rank of Colonel.

Martin is a licensed patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Martin holds a J.D. from the Ohio State University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Ohio State University.

In his spare time, Martin is an avid beekeeper and performing musician.
