Supporting Scientific Reviewing of Thermophysical and Thermochemical Research Publications (IUPAC 2023-008-1-024)
Summary
The principles of Good Reporting Practice have been stated and justified in the IUPAC project "Good Reporting Practice for Thermophysical and Thermochemical Property Measurements" (IUPAC project 2019-013-1-100/). In order to increase their impact and foster their implementation, creation and dissemination of checklists and other tools supporting scientific review process are proposed. Checklists should facilitate uncovering significant omissions in manuscripts and assure complete and unambiguous reporting. They can be mirrored by interested parties and supported by web-based interfaces. Other tools for prevention of numerical errors in publications may be proposed while running this project.
Description
The checklists will include a common part covering identification of the studied compounds, properties, and methods, as well as specific parts for certain types of objects and measurements. Development of a web interface to select relevant lists and collect observations is planned. The checklists will be submitted to IUPAC for review and subsequent publication. Any interested parties, such as universities and publishers, will be encouraged to use or mirror the checklists and interfaces. New ideas of how to efficiently present property data in machine-readable formats may be generated.
The project team consists of chemical engineers, researchers, and data experts who know what essential information in property data publications is needed to prove the reliability and to effectively use the data in various applications.
