Abstract
This brief presentation defines independence as it relates to the corporate structure of a laboratory accreditation body. Requirements are referenced from ISO/IEC Guide 58, ISO/IEC DIS 17011, International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation ILAC-P1, ANSI-RAB-NAP Advisory No. 1, and a CASCO report on image and integrity of conformity assessment. Accreditation bodies must be organized and operated so as to safeguard the objectivity and impartiality of its activities.
