Abstract

The surging demand for industrial automation is propelling the use of robots, with emerging trends like autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robotic arms swiftly gaining widespread popularity. Simultaneously, a growing focus is on simplifying the process of developing, installing, reconfiguring, and operating robot systems to achieve manufacturing adaptability. The concept of a Digital Twin, which replicates the behavior of a complex system in a virtual environment for analysis and optimal operations is gaining traction in the robotics space. In the realm of robotics, a Digital Twin is expected to address the challenges associated with designing, testing, commissioning, and operational reconfigurations. However, achieving this requires the creation of a Digital Twin that accurately represents various dimensions of a robotic system in a manufacturing context. This study explores the components of a robot system that need to be modeled in a comprehensive Digital Twin, creating a reliable virtual copy of a physical robot system. A Digital Twin of this kind can be utilized throughout the lifecycle of the physical robot installation across a range of different use cases.
