Abstract

A general purpose finite element program for the analysis of three dimensional elastic-plastic solids at large strains has been developed. In this work, this program is utilitzed to analyze a sample problem. The numerical results indicate the essential differences among the linear elastic, large strain elastic, and large strain elastic-plastic solutions. The issue of residual stresses is presented. The performance measure of computer software in general and finite element programs in particular is discussed.
