Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to make a study of the degradation of polycarbonate lenses when submitted to thermal radiations between 5 and 15kW/m2. In addition, it studies how to improve the lenses' thermal resistance by adding a thin reflexive reflective gold layer, while still trying to keep the optical transmission within reasonable levels of visible range. The goal is to find possible solutions for thermal degradation of lenses currently used in firefighters' self-contained breathing apparatus. The results show a great improvement in the heat resistance, although it still needs more work to improve the visible region transmittance.Citation
