Abstract

In July 2012, NIST conducted the Green Concrete Workshop to bring together stakeholders from the concrete construction industry and identify critical needs for the expanded use of industrial by- product materials, such as fly ash and slag, in concrete production. The workshop participants identify needs that included improved measurement science and test methods for characterizing the constituent materials, improved models and metrics for developing and evaluating the potential performance of these materials, and improved industry best practices and specifications. The roles of industry, government, academia, and standards organizations were identified, and a measurement science roadmap was developed to meet some of the technical needs.
