Abstract

Direct Mode communication remains one of the major hurdles for transitioning from Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to broadband technology. This session will start by providing some background information on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) direct mode, called Proximity Services, introduced in Release 12 and its enhancements in subsequent releases. The remaining of the talk will describe vehicular-to- anything (V2X) communication being defined in 3GPP New Radio (NR) and the efforts to leverage this new technology in order to enhance direct mode performance and reliability in the context of public safety scenarios.
