For the revised version of the ANSI/IEEE N42.42 standard, published in 2012, additional tools are provided to assist the radiation measurement instruments manufacturers in the development of N42 compliant documents. For this version of the standard, the structure of the data is described by a new XML Schema (.xsd) 2011 file. This schema file allows XML parsers to validate the format of instrument data files for the 2011 version of the standard: it defines the standard names for data elements and attributes, whether or not they are optional or required for each class of instrument, and the hierarchical relationships between them.
The following draft examples are developed for different types of radiation measurement instruments:
Radiation Portal Monitor (with and without alarm conditions)
Spectroscopic Radiation Portal Monitor
Spectroscopic Personal Radiation Detector

Additional tools are provided for the N42 format for the 2011 revision of the ANSI/IEEE N42.42 standard. These tools include business rules. These rules have been implemented as an ISO Schematron schema that can be downloaded from here.
If issues or mistakes are found in the published version of the standard, please forward your comments to Leticia Pibida at leticia.pibida [at] nist.gov (leticia[dot]pibida[at]nist[dot]gov). This information will allow me to address existing issues in the next version of the standard as well as providing additional information to the users of the standard. A list of current identified issues can be found here.
