The NIST Engineering Laboratory, together with US-Ignite (www.us-ignite.org) hosted and led the kick-off workshop of the Global City Teams Challenge on September 29-30, 2014 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The Global City Teams Challenge was launched with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm, with over 200 attendees at the Challenge's kick-off workshop on-site joined by an additional 160 remote participants. There were 16 invited speakers from government agencies, industry and non-profits, as well as elevator pitches from the participants. Designed to provide an opportunity for interested parties to discuss Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet-of-Things deployments in a SmartCity environment, the workshop culminated with more than 15 presentations by potential Global City Team Challenge action clusters. Since the kick-off, the number of the action clusters has increased to over 20, ranging from transportation, healthcare, energy, emergency response, and others. A list of potential projects can be found at www.us-ignite.org/globalcityteams..
