National Advisory Committee on Windstorm Impact Reduction

The National Advisory Committee on Windstorm Impact Reduction was sunset by Public Law 115-42 on September 30, 2017.  During its operation from May – September of 2017, the Committee met six times and produced a report with their recommendations to the NIST Director.

The National Windstorm Impact Reduction Act Reauthorization of 2015 called for the creation of a National Advisory Committee on Windstorm Impact Reduction (NACWIR). NACWIR was charged with offering assessments and recommendations on—

  • trends and developments in the natural, engineering, and social sciences and practices of windstorm impact mitigation;
  • the priorities of the National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program's Strategic Plan;
  • the coordination of the Program;
  • the effectiveness of the Program in meeting its purposes;
  • any revisions to the Program which may be necessary.

Members of the advisory committee were selected based on their technical expertise and experience, established records of distinguished service in their professional community, and their knowledge of issues affecting the National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program.
