Students at NICE

Students are eligible to intern with NICE through the following NIST Programs:

  • Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP)
    SHIP provides opportunities for high school students interested in scientific research.

  • Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
    SURF is designed to inspire undergraduate students to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through a unique research experience that supports the NIST mission.

  • NIST Professional Research Experience Program (PREP)
    The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is designed to provide valuable laboratory experience and financial assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty.  The program is intended to assure continued growth and progress of a highly skilled science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) workforce in the United States.

  • NIST Pathways Program
    The Pathways Program offers clear paths to Federal internships for students from high school through post-graduate school and to careers for recent graduates, and provides meaningful training and career development opportunities for individuals who are at the beginning of their Federal service.
