Dr. Hight Walker is recognized for establishing unique outreach mechanisms to encourage students from underrepresented groups to pursue higher-education goals in the physical sciences. Hight Walker worked collaboratively with University of Maryland physicists and then-PML Director Katharine Gebbie to organize and host the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics, and with former NIST Director Willie May to organize and chair the 2016 and 2017 Conference for Undergraduate Underrepresented Minorities in Physics. Through her passion and commitment to education and outreach, Hight Walker has created a unique regional ecosystem that provides a critical community of support to undergraduates through an engaging conference framework.
