Abstract
The original National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard for hand-held metal detectors for use in concealed weapon detection was written in 1974 and revised in 2000. The 2000 revision of the NIJ standard provided repeatable and reproducible test methods, improved detection performance requirements, improved system quality requirements, and new introduced designs for realistic test objects. The 2002 revision of the NIJ standard improves on the electromagnetic compatibility requirements, durability requirements, handgun exemplar design, detection sensitivity test method, and field testing procedures of the 2000 revision.Citation
