Carolyn Rowland is a supervisory computer scientist in the Engineering Laboratory (EL). Carolyn acts as the IT advisor to EL senior leaders and staff. Carolyn also serves as the EL IT Security Officer, a laboratory version of the agency-level CISO. In this role, Carolyn is the EL liaison to the NIST CISO on Federal IT security issues.
Carolyn's team focuses on enabling good data management practices as well as bootstrapping EL's implementation of Project Open Data. Her team also intervenes on issues of IT security compliance that impact EL. Her team strives to enable effective use of modern technology by removing barriers to adoption and use, and to help researchers make the best use of these tools.
Carolyn started at NIST as a Unix system administrator helping usher NIST into a modern world of automation and DevOps culture. She earned her BS degree from Michigan Technological University.
