DongHun Yeo (Fed)

Research Structural Engineer

Dr. DongHun Yeo is a research structural engineer in the Structures Group of the Materials and Structural Systems Division of the Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. His present research includes CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations and wind tunnel testing for structural engineering applications, uncertainty quantification in experimental and numerical simulations, structural reliability, advanced design of high-rise buildings for wind, extreme wind climatology, and fluid-structural interactions.

Currently, Dr. Yeo is involved in the National Construction Safety Team (NCST) Technical Investigation of Hurricane Maria and its impacts on Puerto Rico. He is investigating the wind environment, including topographic effects, and the performance of critical buildings in Puerto Rico using CFD and wind tunnel studies.

Dr. Yeo is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Virginia. He actively participates in the Wind Load Subcommittee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7-22 Standard: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, in the Standard Committee of ASCE 49: Wind Tunnel Testing for Buildings and Other Structures, and in the ASCE Technical Committees including the Structural Wind Engineering Committee, the Computer-Aided Wind Engineering Subcommittee, the Design of Non-Residential Structures Subject to Tornadoes Subcommittee, and the Fluid Dynamics Committee.

Dr. Yeo is the co-author with Dr. Emil Simiu of “Wind Effects on Structures: Modern Structural Design for Wind,” 4th edition (Wiley, 2019). He has taught Wind Engineering and Structural Dynamics in the Engineering Professionals program of The Johns Hopkins University.
