Hannah Brown is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and director of the Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) at the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), overseeing IT security and privacy, networking, helpdesk and customer support, enterprise platform and application development, IT infrastructure, and operational AI services.
Before her current role, Hannah served as the Deputy Associate Director for Laboratory Programs (ADLP), where she supervised multiple offices, including the Standards Coordination Office, Special Programs Office, and Research Protection Office. During her tenure in ADLP, she established the new ADLP Research Data and Computing Office and championed the METIS data exchange ecosystem and Project Phoenix, significantly advancing high-performance computing capabilities for NIST researchers.
Hannah has also held leadership positions within NIST, including director of the Business Operations Office (BOO) and supervisory manager of the Services and Project Management team in OISM. She has been recognized for her outstanding leadership with two NIST Special Act Awards and the NIST Bronze Award, the bureau's highest honor. Her previous experiences in the private sector provided her with valuable insights into managing IT and operations across various locations.
Hannah holds a master’s degree in public administration from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in geology/earth science from Hanover College. Her multifaceted expertise and commitment to innovation continue to drive NIST's mission forward.
