Abstract

NIST plays a role in the development of standards for commercial measuring systems that are used in legal metrology in the U.S. NIST Handbook 130 and NIST Handbook 44 are published by NIST and contain standards that have been adopted at the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM). NIST Handbook 130 contains model regulations for the method of sale of commodities. NIST Handbook 44 contains code requirements for measuring systems that are used in commercial applications. In response to inquiries from State Weights and Measures officials, NIST has formed a U.S. National Work Group (USNWG) on Measuring Systems for Electric Vehicle Fueling and Submetering. The USNWG has made progress toward the goal of preparing and submitting proposals to the NCWM for inclusion in both NIST Handbook 130 and NIST Handbook 44 to address electric vehicle fueling and submetering applications.
