Abstract

This bulletin summarizes the information presented in NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-146, Cloud Computing Synopsis and Recommendations: Recommendations of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The publication explains the different cloud computing technologies and configurations, and recommends methods and approaches that organizations should consider when making decisions about implementing cloud computing, NIST SP 800-146 was written by Lee Badger and Tim Grance of NIST, Robert Patt-Corner of Global Tech, Inc., and Jeff Voas of NIST. The bulletin summarizes the publication, and covers the characteristics of cloud computing, the factors to be considered in the deployment of cloud computing, and open issues that may impact future organizational decisions concerning the deployment of cloud computing. References are provided to additional sources of information on cloud computing.
