Fire Modeling Analysis: Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building

Abstract

This report describes results obtained from a fire protection engineering analysis of an historic government office building located in Washington, DC. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building is a five story building constructed in the 1870 s to house presidential advisors and senior cabinet-level officials. This analysis focuses on an assessment of the impact of a set of suggested building improvements on overall building fire safety. Using the results from several computer-based fire models, the spread of fire and smoke and the movement of building occupants are examined. The analysis demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed building modifications in enhancing the building fire safety.
