Abstract

This document provides an overview of a new ISO standard, ISO/CD 10303-231, for exchanging process engineering information among process design and process simulation software tools and presents three views of this standard. First, it attempts to forecast the impact of application protocol (AP) 231 of ISO10303 on some process engineering activities in the twenty-first century. Second, it breaks down application protocol (AP) 231 into canonical areas. Third, it identifies technologies and skills that will be useful to some process engineers in the next millennium with the increased use of AP 231 by industry and expanded coverage of process data by AP 231.
