Abstract
Open area test sites (OATS) or equivalent semi-anechoic chambers are the most commonly used sites for EMC emissions tests. This article discusses the origins of this test methodology and revisits the interference problem (broadcast media) that the OATS emission test originally addressed. We submit that the interference landscape has changed significantly since the OATS method was developed and that the OATS emission test may not be the best choice to address today's EM environment.Citation
