Abstract

This paper discusses how the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory (MEL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) promotes a healthy U.S. aerospace manufacturing sector by developing and applying technology, measurements, and standards. The paper articulates MEL's current and potential future roles in assisting this key U.S. manufacturing sector with respect to technological disciplines associated with metrology, manufacturing processes and equipment, and systems integration and interoperability.
