Abstract

Using Voluntary Standards in the Federal Government is a compilation of presentations given at a NIST-sponsored conference held on September 8, 1997. The purpose of the conference was to foster better understanding among Federal agencies of the private sector standardization process. The conference took place as part of a major effort by NIST to implement the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act [NTTAA]. The NTTA gives NIST responsibility to coordinate standards and conformity assessment activities with other Federal agencies, state and local governments, and with the private sector.
