Academic Institutions

Academia provides the education and research opportunities needed to support the development of forensic science standards and their continued improvement.

Standards implementation begins with education. Colleges and universities with either science or forensic science-based education are provided free access to the standards on the OSAC Registry. Making students aware of these standards – in lectures, in practical lab exercises, and in exams – provides them with a foundation of scientific procedures, practices and protocols, and gives them a head start so they are better prepared when they enter the forensic science field.

In addition to assessing the state of implementation by forensic science service providers, OSAC is also looking to better understand how standards are being used in the academic setting. We are developing  a survey to capture this implementation information and expect to roll it out in the fall of 2024.
