OSAC Registry Implementation: Manage/Maintain

icon of improvement cycle

Standards development and implementation is a never-ending process! Standards must be continually reviewed and revised to ensure the content remains accurate and relevant. As more SDO published and OSAC Proposed Standards are added to the Registry, it may be helpful for forensic science service providers (FSSPs) to stay informed about the latest additions and the standards moving through the Registry approval process.

The OSAC Registry Implementation Open Enrollment period is designed to provide a focused time each year when FSSPs can update or initiate their standards implementation activities. While OSAC will continue to accept implementation information throughout the year, this period is an opportunity for FSSPs to establish a regular cadence to review and update their implementation information.

Stakeholders in the forensic science and criminal justice communities as well as Congress have expressed interest in following the progress of standards implementation by FSSPs.

Tips for Success:

  • Assign a representative of your organization to monitor the OSAC Standards Bulletin each month for new standards that have been added to the Registry. If new standards are added to the OSAC Registry that are relevant to your operations, notify the respective technical leader in your agency to review. The range of disciplines that will be impacted directly by standards approved for the Registry is expanding rapidly. To help find the standards relevant to each discipline, visit the OSAC Registry and search by 'document owner' or 'OSAC subcommittee'. You can also visit the Forensic Science Standards Library for an interactive database of the current forensic science standards landscape.
  • Join our mailing list to be notified and receive other important standards-related announcements.
  • Participate in OSAC's annual Open Enrollment period.
