Interested in being part of the decarbonization of the transportation sector?
The Applied Electrical Measurements (AEM) group in the Quantum Measurement Division (QMD) at NIST is responsible for providing the foundation of the nation’s measurement infrastructure through measurement services in the general areas of voltage, current, power and energy, and related quantities. The AEM has primarily focused on ac power and energy but is expanding its capabilities for dc power/energy measurements to support a greener, decarbonized future. Recent federal and state investments to transition transportation systems in the U.S. to zero-emission vehicle platforms now exceed billions of dollars. The enormous energy market that is growing to support electric vehicle (EV) fast charging underlies the immediate critical need for traceable measurements of electric power and energy delivered by electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) to ensure fair and accurate electricity sales in charging of EV batteries. NIST has been tasked with providing such traceability, specifically the calibration of direct current (DC) fast charging field equipment. The AEM Group is developing new dc measurement capabilities to meet this need and is looking to hire someone to assist with the following objectives:
Individual qualifications for this position include a strong background in electrical engineering or physics, good writing and communication skills, and ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
The Applied Electrical Measurements Group is a vital part of NIST’s mission to provide the Nation with the highest quality measurement standards.
Interested candidates must be U.S. Citizens and should contact Thomas Nelson, AEM Group Leader at thomas.nelson@nist.gov with a cover letter describing their interest in the potential position, a Curriculum Vitae or Resume, and a list of potential references.
This position will be either ZP-III or ZP-IV (GS 10-14 equivalent) depending on education and experience of the candidate.
