The purpose of these test and evaluation protocols is to provide additional information to the published ANSI/IEEE N42 series for homeland security applications for radiation detection systems.
The test and evaluation protocols provide data sheets for data collection of test results obtained when testing radiation detection instruments against the ANSI/IEEE N42 standards series for homeland security applications. These sheets were developed from data files originally used by the Technical Testing and Analysis Center in Oak Ridge National Laboratory for data reporting. Now they are currently maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology as part of the GRaDER program.
The test and evaluation protocols provide recommendations on the order in which the test described in the ANSI/IEEE standards should be executed, they give additional information on how the instrument output data files may be validated to meet the ANSI/IEEE N42.42 standard requirements and they provide modification to the the test requirements or test methods described in the ANSI/IEEE N42 series if issues are found that require immediate action (before the standard can be revised).
The test and evaluation protocols as well as the data sheets can be downloaded for the published ANSI/IEEE N42 standards for testing radiation detection instruments for homeland security applications. The following files are currently available for download:
