Abstract

General and specific fragmentation pathways of arylcyclanes with three, four, five and six membered saturated rings under electron ionization are determined. The resulting characteristic ions are useful for structure elucidation. The measured appearance energies for styrene radical cations increase with the decrease of a ring strain.
