The 2016 Accolades award consists of a granular material in an hourglass shape created from Erlenmeyer flasks. Granular materials are ubiquitous in nature and prevalent in commercial applications including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, civil engineering, additive manufacturing and energy productions. The “sand” in the timer consisted of approximately 100,000 stainless steel metal spheroids that were recorded to empty in 20 s ± 1 s. The funnel and base associated with the award, which included a neodymium magnet, were 3D printed at MML and had an individual plaque acknowledging the accomplishments of the of the Accolade’s recipient. The awards were issued with a Certificate of Analysis.
