Abstract

This manuscript is the preface for the proceedings of the focused session 'Perovskite Oxides for Electronic, Energy Conversion, and Energy Efficiency Applications,' which was held April 25-28, 1999, in Indianapolis, IN, during the 101st annual meeting of the American Ceramic Society. This two-day session provided a vigorous forum for interactions between the perovskite research and application communities, and for discussion of current processing challenges. Scientific topics covered both historical and the latest developments in the understanding of the fundamental materials issues. The program included 15 invited talks, 11 contributed talks and 28 posters. A total of 25 scientific papers is featured in this volume. These papers were divided into three sessions, according to the following areas: (1)Chemistry and Synthesis; (2)Structure/Property Relationships in Perovskites; and (3) Processing and Property Modification of Perovskites.
