Under NIST’s safety requirements and at the recommendation of the NIST Office of Human Resource Management, the Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) has adopted a scent-free policy that is in effect in all of its offices, classrooms and training areas. Under this policy scented air fresheners, strong perfumes, colognes, body sprays or similar products may not be worn, used or stored in these areas. This policy was adopted to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for NIST staff and visitors because scented products have triggered harsh health reactions (e.g., nausea and migraine headaches) for those with sensitivities.
