Flooding often occurs following heavy rainfall and can happen very quickly. Floods are most likely to occur during the months of May through September.
- If floodwaters have already arrived and you are trapped in the building, go to an upper floor or roof.
- Do not cross flowing streams on foot where the water is above your knees.
- Do not drive through flooded streets or parking lots (turn around, don't drown).
Gaithersburg
- Some Gaithersburg buildings are prone to flooding, however, this is not a problem across the entire campus.
- Notify Gaithersburg Campus Police at x2222 from a campus phone or call 301-975-2222 from a cellular phone. When calling 911 from a cellular or off-site phone inform the 911 dispatcher that the emergency is on the NIST campus.
