NIST would like to welcome your participation in the upcoming ANSI/NIST-ITL Standard Update Workshop. This event is open to all biometric subject matter experts (SMEs), biometric system developers and integrators from government, academia, and industry alike, who wish to participate in the update of the existing document. We welcome, along with registration, and completion of the Canvassee application, suggestions and topics of interest to be included in the agenda for discussion and consideration for the update or next iteration of the ANSI/NIST-ITL Standard.

The ANSI/NIST-ITL Kickoff Meeting was held on Oct 31st is to discuss changes and/or corrections for the updated 2015 standard. One key feature of this update will be the use of NIEM 3.0 for XML encoding of the standard. Currently NIEM 2.1 is used for ANSI/NIST-ITL schemas.
There was also a Mobile ID Best Practices Recommendations Kickoff Meeting on October 30, 2014 to discuss changes for creating a new and updated version of the Mobile ID BPR. The BPR has not been updated in several years and needs to be brought up to date.

a concept of having a standard for data transmission concerning object identification, such as cartridges, bullets, tire tracks, shoe prints, and inks.
Based upon the results of this workshop, the editor developed a draft version of the updated standard that was circulated to the canvassees. A team developed the XML schema. Updated drafts of the standard were circulated among the canvassees and an initial vote was conducted. In order to resolve comments from the canvassees, a re-ballot with a new draft was conducted. In order to resolve one last area of differences, a second reballot was conducted (ending on November 9, 2011) which resulted in unanimous approval of this version of the standard.
This workshop was designed to get input from the canvassees and other interested parties in the proposed content for a revision to the ANSI/NIST-ITL standard.
