Laboratory Metrology Proficiency Testing (PT) Services
The OWM Laboratory Metrology Program operates an ISO/IEC 17043 compliant Proficiency Testing (PT) service that assesses the effectiveness of the metrology training efforts for the state laboratory participants and the traceability of the state metrology laboratories to the SI through NIST standards and measurement services.
The PT interlaboratory comparisons are limited in scope to only those state and private calibration laboratories that participate in our U.S. Regional Measurement Assurance Program and conducts proficiency tests limited to mass calibration, volume calibration, and length (steel tapes and rules) calibration. Participants in the PT interlaboratory comparisons include state legal metrology laboratories in addition to federal and commercial laboratories across the U.S.
