The 7 position heating block (7HB) can reach temperatures up to 250 ºC in air and 300ºC under vacuum with a precision of ±1.0ºC. Cartridge heaters are used to control the heat applied to the block, but there is no direct cooling method. Quartz windows are mounted upstream and downstream of the sample to minimize heat loss via convection while minimizing the neutron scattering background.
